Behind the Journal
Stenlow Gazette is an independent editorial publication on everyday nutrition practices and weight awareness, based in Clerkenwell, London. It does not prescribe. It observes, records, and publishes.
A record of observation, not a system of instruction
Stenlow Gazette operates from a straightforward editorial position: that the relationship between food choices and weight is better understood through careful observation than through prescriptive frameworks. The publication emerged from years of reading nutritional literature alongside the lived experience of keeping a personal food record. The gap between the two — between what the research says and what actually happens at a plate, in a week, across a season — is where the journal operates.
The journal does not promote specific approaches to eating or weight. It does not evaluate commercial products or endorse programmes. It publishes field notes, observational accounts, and documentary records from writers who have kept their own careful records of everyday nutrition practice.

The editorial team
Eleanor Whitfield established Stenlow Gazette in January 2026. Her background is in nutritional literature and independent food writing. She has maintained a personal food record since 2019 and writes from direct observation rather than from a prescriptive standpoint. Based in the journal's Clerkenwell office, she oversees all editorial decisions and writes the majority of published pieces.
Tobias Marsden joined the journal as a contributing writer in early 2026. His focus is on the relationship between daily movement patterns and eating habits, documented through personal field records kept over extended periods. He writes from a background in independent research and long-form observation, and is based in London.
Stenlow Gazette occasionally publishes field notes from guest contributors whose observational work aligns with the journal's editorial approach. Guest contributors are required to disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter. All contributions are reviewed by the founding editor before publication. Enquiries regarding contributions should be directed to [email protected].
How the journal works
Each article begins as a personal food or activity record kept over an extended period — typically four weeks or more. The record is then reviewed for patterns, and the observations are written up in the journal's documentary-factual register. No claim is made beyond what the record directly shows.
Where published nutritional research supports or contextualises an observation, it is cited inline. Where no peer-reviewed source exists, the observation is presented as a personal field note rather than as established fact. The distinction between the two is always made explicit in the text.
All articles are reviewed by a second editor before publication. Corrections to published articles are noted publicly in the text with a dated correction notice. The journal does not remove corrections; it appends them.
Stenlow Gazette carries no advertising and accepts no sponsored content. Writers disclose any commercial relationships relevant to their chosen subject matter. The journal's independence from commercial alignment is a condition of publication for all contributors.
